SpaceX Liftoff KBOOM

$400 + S&H – SpaceX Launch “KBOOM” Drawing in pencil and ink (14″x17″)

THE ART:  This was a fun piece to draw, as I was aiming for a slightly retro comic book aesthetic.  The “KBOOM” doesn’t represent an accidental explosion, but the sound of 9 Merlin engines igniting and blasting the rocket off the launch pad.  Side note for fans:  this drawing obviously depicts the strongback/transport erector (TE), which was unfortunately destroyed in the AMOS-6 pad anomaly in September 2016.  This piece was completed months before this anomaly, so this drawing is NOT to be confused with that event.  However, it’s a nice tribute to the good ol’ TE.

CRS8Art

$350 + S&H – SpaceX CRS-8 Mission Patch in colored pencil by Abby Garrett (10.5″x14″)

SOLD!

THE ART:  This original mission patch drawing was created to commemorate SpaceX’s first Commercial Resupply Services (CRS) mission since the 2015 CRS-7 anomaly.  In addition to the Dragon capsule docked with the International Space Station, this drawing features the Falcon 9 first stage booster standing on the autonomous spaceport drone ship, Of Course I Still Love You.  This was a monumental achievement, as it was SpaceX’s first successful landing on a drone ship and the world’s first ever rocket to land on a ship at sea.  The Falcon 9 is slightly off center from the ship’s target, just like it landed in real life.  The date range featured at the top of the patch represents the time Dragon spent docked to the ISS.  FUN FACT:  The Dragon capsule from this particular CRS mission carried back to Earth NASA astronaut Scott Kelly’s experiment articles from his 1 year stay in the ISS.  This provided valuable research data that will help us develop technology to advance life on Mars and beyond.
